The word “fight” suggests a need to defeat an enemy, presumably those who are perceived as enemies of Christianity. I believe there are young people among us who would happily pursue a career in ordained Christian ministry in an environment where doctrine and belief are of less consequence than compassionate “boots on the ground” ministry to “the least of these my brethren,” and where the measure of success is authenticity rather than numbers. To what should a young person – any person – be committed in order to effectively shepherd a congregation?
